SALT: Telling Others About Christ Acrostic

Below is a very short acrostic for leading others to Christ through your testimony .  I believe it may be based on the message in Matthew 5 (see image at left and/or scripture at bottom).

It has been attributed to Dr. Rice Brooks, author of God's NOT Dead book which inspired the movie series  and student guide.  

This acrostic begins with the letters in the word salt that helps you remember the four steps for telling others about Christ which can help them find their own salvation.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, 

how can it be made salty again? 

It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. 

Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 

In the same way, let your light shine before others, 

that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

PRAY: Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield

The originator of the PRAY acrostic of Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield is unknown.  The basis for it is most likely the Lord's Prayer (As Example of How To Pray) in the Holy Bible.  Prayer should be a conversation between you and God.  If you ask, he will answer - maybe not in the way you wanted but you will get a response.

"If my people, which are called by my name, 

shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, 

and turn from their wicked ways; 

then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, 

and will heal their land." - 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)

Example PRAY acrostic and meaning based on Lord's Prayer in book of Matthew:

Praise God for who is is and what he has done for you.  Get personal, let Him know how grateful you are and how awesome you know he is.  God created everything and everything belongs to Him.  Acknowledge that and let Him rule your life. (Matthew 6:9-10)

Repent for any sins you may have committed. Yes, you confessed and were forgiven of your sins at the time of your salvation so you do not to dredge those up again.  However, you may have a small sin or grievance in your heart that you may not even be aware of it.  That small thing may be preventing you from being close to God or really knowing someone he wants you to get closer to.  (Matthew 6:12)

Ask God for what you want Him to do or request He meet your specific need.  If what you ask is within His will, He will provide for you in His time.  If it is not in His will, you may want to ask "Why?" so you may adjust your desire or attitude appropriately. (Matthew 6:11)

Yield to God by turning everything over to him; surrender yourself, your desires and your concerns.  Wait for His response to your prayer.  He will protect, reward, and guide you as He feels appropriate.  Remember, He wants to your Father and your Friend because He loves you.  (Matthew 6:13)
