Putting it in Context

Bible verses, Bible versions

Sometimes a Bible verse can be confusing when you read it or not sound right when it comes from someone else's speaking.  This is when you need to put it into context to verify the true meaning.  Otherwise scripture may be easily  misinterpreted or purposely twisted out-of-context to be other than God intended.

"The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way:
but the folly of fools is deceit." Proverbs 14:8 (KJV)

How do you put in in context?  The best way is to get your Bible and read the verse before and after the one that is confusing you.  This way you "put it in context" with the actual Word of God that preceded and followed that specific verse.  Often this is enough to clarify the true meaning for you.  If it is not, then try reading the 3 verses in another version of the Bible or read the entire chapter to gain better understanding of what the scripture is telling you.

Bible reading is personal.  Reflect on the scriptures you read to get the message God wants you to have.  Do not rely on what you hear or read from others as your sole guide to what God wants you to know or do.  You grow your faith by learning God's Word and applying it to your life.
