Three Questions for Studying Your Bible: Facts, Feelings, and Find

Bible study technique
In the Three Parts of Devotional Time, the last is reflection and writing.  Below are three questions to ask yourself when studying scriptures in your Bible.  These questions will help you to grow in your knowledge of God's word and apply it to your own life.  If you are reading a passage of multiple verses, for the first two questions you may want to try to list at least three things.

"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
- Romans 15:4 (KJV)
  • What are the facts listed in God's Word?  In other words, what are the tangible things, physical items, or actions  mentioned?  Or perhaps which of the five senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch) are used?  This is the story or the truth you get from reading.
  • What does the Word of God mean?  In other words, what feelings does it give you?  How are you to interpret the meaning of what you have read?  Is there a spiritual message within the verses?
  • What does this Word of God mean for me?  How will you personalize what you have read?  Are there specific things you found that will treasure or use to grow your faith?  What impact will it have in your life now and in the future?
An easy way to remember these questions when reflecting on God's word is: Facts, Feelings, and Find.
