Work to Meet Your Physical Needs

There are some people who believe they are entitled to everything without doing anything for themselves.  They feel it is your "Christian duty" or the government's responsibility to take care of them.  The Bible does instruct us to take care of those who can not take care of themselves (such as disabled, elderly, orphan, poor, sick, widow).  However, God does not command us to take care of those who are able to work for themselves and are just unwilling to do so.

"For even when we were with you, we commanded you this:
If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat." - 2 Thessalonians 3:10 (KJV)

The Bible says a person who can work, should do so in order to feed themselves and their family. The best way to grow, is to work at it and not stand still. Every able-bodied person is responsible for themselves and for helping those who are unable to provide for themselves. As a Christian, you should have a strong work ethic, be proud of that, and you should expect the same in others.  In other words, to meet your basic necessities or if you really want something, you need to work for it. It is not the responisbility of others to provide for the lazy.

Laziness brings on deep sleep,
and the shiftless go hungry. - Proverbs 19:15 (NIV)
